Sewing Line Efficiency Measurement
Every operator's efficiency on every operation, lost time and bonus, in real time
Sewing-line efficiency is the rate at which labour turns into output: pieces produced times the operation's standard time, divided by the operator's working time. argemas MES makes this calculation for every operator and every operation in real time; pieces are counted through the bundle system or a barcode or RFID tag on each product, lost time is tagged separately, and results are reported by line, product, operator and operation.
How efficiency is calculated
The argemas Performance Measurement Module calculates real-time production performance from systemic lost time and actual efficiency data. The pieces each operator produces on each operation are multiplied by the operation's standard time, set by MTM or stopwatch, and divided by the time the operator actually worked. Detailed performance data by line, product, operator, machine and operation is reported instantly, with reporting options designed for different management levels and engineering analyses.
How pieces are counted: bundles, barcodes, RFID
On lines where single pieces cannot travel, a bundle system is set up: each bundle is tracked from operator to operator with a barcode or RFID tag. Where piece-level tracking is possible, every product carries a barcode or RFID tag. Even years later you can find which operator sewed a part and who inspected it. Data is collected on @rgeROVER and @rgeHYPATIA terminals by card scan, keypad or touchscreen; the collection method is designed as a hybrid to suit the line and the operator.
Lost time: measured apart from efficiency
The argemas Lost Time Measurement Module defines and measures plant-caused time losses that are independent of the operator, such as machine breakdowns, waiting for material or thread changes. Lost time is started and stopped with a card scan on the IoT device or from the keypad; the time between the two is recorded automatically as lost time. This shows how much of a 540-minute shift went to production and how much to which loss, and the operator's efficiency is calculated net of those losses.
Lost-time types are defined per plant.
Start and stop tags: card, keypad or touchscreen.
Operator efficiency is calculated net of lost time.
Loss reports feed the proactive improvement process.
Line balancing and andon
Because argemas measures every station's actual cycle time and operator performance in real time, it detects bottleneck stations automatically, balances the workload to prevent pile-ups and increases line output. With the andon and technical support line, a machine breakdown or material shortage is reported to the relevant unit instantly, so the line does not stop.
From efficiency to bonus: bonus and fair-pay systems
Measured efficiency and quality scores flow into the argemas Bonus System Module in real time. Part of the earnings above the plant's break-even point and target profit limit is shared with the employee; bonuses are calculated automatically and reported transparently, with absences pulled from time and attendance. The Fair Pay System Module classifies operators by skill level so that equal skill earns equal pay.
